The Curious Predicament of Giannis Antetokounmpo

Updated: Mar 17, 2021

Hello, Smash fans. Welcome to this week’s article. As many of you know, Giannis has an interesting decision to make next year, but he also has to make a big decision this year. Before the end of December, Giannis Antetokounmpo has to decide on whether or not he will sign the supermax extension. If he does this Giannis will be a Buck for the next 6 years. However, we do not know if this is what Giannis will do as he has dropped multiple hints that he wants to play with LeBron and does not care about whether he is the first option on a championship team. With this in mind, I want to walk through the different scenarios for Giannis and how that would impact their team.

Signs the Supermax this year.

If Giannis decides to sign the Supermax this year, the Bucks would have won the offseason and would be a title contender for years to come. However, depending on the progression of Giannis and how good the roster around Giannis becomes, Giannis may never win a title and his prime years may be wasted carrying mediocre teams to deep runs in the playoffs

Signs the Max next year.

In my opinion, the only way this happens is if Giannis doesn’t sign the supermax this year and the Bucks make it to the finals. If Giannis were to do this, nothing would change on the Bucks’ side. However, every team that thinks they might have a shot at Giannis would have to recover and fill holes they created in hopes that Giannis would want to sign there

Signs a 1 plus 1 with a player option next year.

If Giannis signs this type of deal, it would mean a few things. One: Giannis is giving Milakee one last chance to build a championship team. Two: Giannis has some ideas on how that can happen. Three: He will hold all the power in the Bucks franchise. Four: There will be fewer teams with the capability to sign Giannis in the 2022 free agency if he opts out due to the monster class that Giannis is a part of. All in all this decision will give him more time to assess his situation while still giving him the power he wants.

Signs with the Mavericks or the Heat next year

This is my favorite out of all the choices for Giannis. If Giannis signs with one of these two franchises, they instantly become title contenders. If Giannis signs with the Heat, the east becomes a two-team race with the Nets, and Giannis almost garnered his finals appearance. On the other hand, if Giannis signs with the Mavericks, he and Luca along with Poringus could dominate the NBA for years to come. At the point when Giannis would sign, he would be 26, Luca would be 22, and Porzingis would be 25. 10 years from now all 3 of them will still be productive players in the NBA and Luca will still be in his prime, barring some unforeseen injury or development. All three of these people on the same team would be insane and would push the Mavericks into title contention without a doubt.

Signs with the Lakers

If this were to happen I would cry. This transaction would ruin the league because there is no other team that could hold a candle to that big three: it would destroy the league. Basketball would once again have no parody just like in 2017. This would be the first time ever three top-five players played together. It would be absolute madness and render the playoff utterly useless.

I hope this article helped you understand more about The Greek Freaks situation, and how it could change the league throughout the nation. Thank you all for sticking to this articles last line, Until the next time,
