Top 10 NFL Teams Half Way Through the Season
Updated: Mar 17, 2021
Hi, and welcome to this week’s article. As we are halfway through this NFL season I thought it would be a great time to do my first power ranking, so without further ado: My top 10 NFL Teams going into week 9.
10. Arizona Cardinals
This Cardinals has an extremely high ceiling. Budda Baker is playing out of his mind. DeAndre Hopkins is arguably the best wideout in the league and Kyler can go toe to toe with the best of them. However, they just need too many things to go right for them to win. Their only good win was against the Seahawks, and Russell Wilson had to have his worst game of the year for them to have a chance. Then, they had to rely on Chase Edmonds to get 145 yards from scrimmage, and DK Metcalf to be a non-factor. This team is almost there, they just need a better rushing attack and a better defense overall
9. Indianapolis Colts
Phillip Rivers look good, that defense shows flashes of greatness, and Nyheim Hines looks like he could become something special. However, their wide receiver core is abysmal, the defense is not consistent and they don’t seem to be able to get those big plays enough. Overall they're a good team but their ceiling is low.
8 Green Bay Packers
They have a top-three quarterback in the league, a top-tier running back, and one of the best wide receivers in the league. Additionally, their defense has shown flashes of being able to contribute. However, you can bully this defense in the run game. You can make this entire team fold if you run well enough. The Vikings scored 28 points because of their run game. That's crazy! Because of this, their ability to control the pace in games is limited and thus makes their ceiling low.
7. New Orleans Saints
Drew Brees is one of the best quarterbacks of all time, Alvin Kamara is one of the best running backs in the league, and their defense is good. However, their lack of big-play potential makes this team’s offense substantially less potent and makes them much more susceptible to getting beat by good redzone defenses.
6. Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen is looking like a superstar in the making, Stephon Diggs looks like a top-five wide receiver, and that defense is dangerous. However, the lack of playoff experience for Josh Allen and the lack of a running game makes this team susceptible to being beat in the big moments and games.
5. Tennessee Titans
The Titans almost have the opposite problem as the bills. The Titans' run game is outstanding. King Henry is unstoppable. However, their passing attack is not very strong, which could hurt them in shootouts. Combine that with the fact I don’t trust Tannehill in the clutch yet, and you get a team with some scary limitations.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This team is good. They have two all pro caliber wide-outs, are going to get a third one, have the second-best defense in the league, and have one of the best coaches in the league. Not to mention the greatest football player of all time, Tom Brady. Their only hole is a lack of a consistent running game and that might be solved if Leonard Fournette can stay healthy.
3. Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens
I could not pick which was better so I put them both here, and each one of these franchises only has one question they need to answer. For the Seahawks, it is, "Can your defense be good enough to not implode if someone touches it?" If the Seahawks can figure that out, they can win the Super Bowl. On the other hand, the Ravens are asking themselves if Lamar can fix his mental errors. If Lamar can do that, they could easily win the Super Bowl as well.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
The only undefeated team left. This, in my opinion, is the most complete team in the NFL. They have a top 10 running back, a solid wide receiver core, a hall of fame quarterback, and the best defense in the league. However, I don’t fully trust Big Ben in big spots, and the offense can disappear at times throughout the game, so I can’t rate them number one.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
They can beat you in so many different ways. They can beat you in a shootout, they can run it down your throat, they can beat you on special teams, or they can shut you down with your running back. This team is insane. Yes, they did lose to the Raiders, but I think the Raiders have a top 5 ceiling in this League. I don’t think people remember how good Derick Carr was before his injury. He was going to win MVP that year. If you can get him to play like that plus have a top 3 tight end, a top 5 running back, and a decent defense, you get a dangerous team, and that is what the Chiefs ran into.
