Hello Smash fans, and welcome back to this weeks installment. In this article I want to talk about Cam Newton getting cut and what that means for the New England Patriots. Without further do let’s get into it.
First up let me explain why Cam Newton got cut. First off, Mac Jones played really well in the preseason. This allowed Bill Belichick and the rest of the Patriots coaching staff to look at Cam Newton in a different light. If it was clear that Mac Jones was not ready then they would not have considered cutting Cam. However, since it does seem like he is ready and that he is competent with the playbook, he allowed New England to look at Cam in a more objective sense for the program. The second reason that Cam got cut was because of all the inconsistencies off the field. If there is one thing we know about New England, they do not like drama and inconsistency off the field. That is what Cam Newton gave them this off-season. This made the Patriots angry. That, along with him missing multiple practices due to Covid protocol because he will not get vaccinated, led to him being cut from the Patriots. But now that he’s cut, what does that mean for Cam Newton’s future
One of two things could happen for Cam Newton. Number one is he gets vaccinated and accepts a back up role. If this happens, he will be able to sign with almost any team in the NFL. However, if he does not get vaccinated, I feel like the only way he could get signed is if a team’s quarterback gets hurt and they need a starter. If this is the case, I feel like Dallas is going to be the place he lands. I don’t know how good Dak is feeling with his shoulder. From everything I’ve read it’s kind of like a picture injury where the only way for it to heal is time off, and he’s not gonna get that during the regular season unless he takes games off. With this in mind, I definitely think Cam Newton being signed by the Dallas Cowboys mid season makes sense.
On the Patriot side of things, I don’t see this really hurting them too much. Throughout the preseason New England has become higher and higher on Mac Jones. I think he can be what Brady was the first couple years he was in the league. I think Mac Jones could be one of the best game managers in the NFL, and that’s all you have to do. Their defense is great, those running backs are deep and it looks like the rookie running back is going to be fantastic. Overall, I just see this Bill Belichick run team to be very quarterback independent. With this in mind, I do still see the Patriots making the playoffs, and I don’t see much changing on the Patriot side of the equation.
